If non EEA or Swiss citizen and not married with an EEA or Swiss citizen => A limited licence to practice can be granted under certain circumstances for a maximum period of 3 years

Doctors who can not present a diploma corresponding to Directive 2005/36/EC have to apply for recognition of their postgraduate training undergone abroad by the Commission for the Accreditationof Foreign Training Periods of the Austrian Medical Chamber. Upon fulfilling  the criteria of the Austrian Medical Training Regulations (fullfillment of minimum of training periods and fullfillment of the objectives of training laid down in the Training Regulations), the doctor is admitted to the exam that is obligatory for all doctors in Austria.
Moreover, doctors of non-German mother tongue have to prove sufficient knowledge of the German language, in most cases in the form of a language examination offered by the Austrian Medical Chamber.

Deadlines and Duration
Deadlines: 

There is no application deadline
- The recognition procedure of diplomas corresponding to EU Directive 2005/36/EC only takes a few days.
- The recognition of university studies that do not constitute a diploma as mentioned in Annex 5.1.1. of Directive 2005/36/EC can last up to a few years, depending on how many exams have to be taken by the student in order to have his foreign degree recognised in Austria.
- The recognition of postgraduate training undergone abroad by the Commission for the Accreditation of Foreign Training Periods  of the Austrian Medical Chamber takes a few weeks between the deadline for the submission of documents and the meeting and decision of the Commission (one meeting every three months)

Existent Medical Dedrees
Medical Degrees: 

Three public universities and one private one offer the possibility to complete medical studies. Upon completion of studies, graduates are awarded the title of “doctor medicinae universae”, abbreviated “Dr. med. univ.”. Persons who complete postgraduate studies, which comprise a scientific thesis, are awarded the title of doctor of medical science, abbreviated “Dr. med. sc.”.

Between 1.700€ and 2.500€ (gross monthly salary) approximately.
There is a legal obligation to pay overtime hours, however, this is unfortunately not always adhered to. Overtime hours are paid at a rate of an additional 50% in general. On-call times spent in hospitals can be remunerated lower.

The maximum working time limit is fixed principally by law at a maximum of 13 hours per day respectively 32 hours per duty and up to 60 hours per week on average under certain circumstances. On-call times are classified as working time

The accreditation procedure is in the competence of the Austrian Medical Chamber. The preconditions that have to be fulfilled for a hospital or a department in order to be accepted as an authorised training institution are specified by law. The Austrian Medical Chamber is legally obliged to evaluate the quality of training provided by the authorised training institutions, by means of visitations.
Perspective towards migration of Helthcare Professionals and additional information: 

Medical trainees are welcome in Austria. However the waiting time to find a training position can be relatively long, as there are by far more applicants for training positions than vacant positions.

FFor the reason stated above, many Austrian medical trainees emigrate to do their training in other EU countries. GGermany, the UK, Switzerland and Sweden are the main European countries targeted by Austrian trainees. HHowever, there is also a considerable number of Austrian trainees who emigrate to the USA or Australia.
