Documents needed/Requirements for Recognition
Documents Needed:

I.D. or Residence Permit or Passport
Professional degree in accordance with the EU legislation
Criminal record (issued no-later than three months before registration)
Portuguese Tax identification number
Certificate of good standing by the medical authority of the origin country
To pay the Registration fee
Certificate of graduation (Non-EU Citizenship)
Certificate of equivalence by a Portuguese University (Non-EU Citizenship)
Curriculum Vitae as proof of professional activity (Non-EU Citizenship)
Proof of practicing medicine for at least three out of the last 5 years if you want autonomy for (Non-EU Citizenship)
Other Requirements: 

It is necessary to register in the Portuguese Medical Association. Each case is dealt in the Regional Section you address (North - Oporto; Centre - Coimbra; South - Lisbon). All documents have to be validated and copies with the Portuguese translation are required. (Non-EU Citizenship).

Deadlines and Duration
Deadlines: 

Process Duration: 5 months + 1 month for Non-EU Citizens. There are no application deadlines for the registry. It can not take more than 6 months. For the Communication Skills test you have to check when the next one is taking place. There should be one monthly.

Medical Degrees: 

Medical Doctor (Médico) Specialist (Especialista) Consultant (Consultor) To enter to a Medicine Faculty the Grade average and national examinations Medical Degree 6 years course After graduating there is a competitive National Examination based on the content from the book Harrison Principles of Internal Medicine that will rank you at national level according to your mark, and thus your position in the competition for training posts. It is mandatory to enter Medical Internship. Medical Internship comprises two phases: Ano Comumand Specialized training phase. The first year after graduation is called Ano Comum with rotations in Primary Care (Family Medicine and Public Health), Internal Medicine, Obstetrics, Paediatrics and General Surgery. Upon completion of this year you enter the, Specialty training phase that varies between 3-6 years depending on which one you pick. After that you can work as a specialist. Three years after you are a specialist you can take another exam to become a Consultant(which consist mainly of a CV discussion over the work you have developed after becoming a specialist). The applications for these exams are announced previously. However they have been scarce for quite some time. (the process is being reviewed and renegotiated with the Government). Otherwise, after 8 years without exams you can just present your CV and a curricular committee reviews it, granting the Consultant degree.

To enter a specialty you need to take the competitive National Examination for application for postgraduate training posts. It takes place every last trimester of each civil year. Each year the number of training positions is announced. The people with the best competitive National Examination score choose before those with lower exam scores.

Each specialty has a core program that all interns from that speciality have to follow. Each year you may have an evaluation to proceed to the next year. Upon completion you will have an examination with a national board where they evaluate your curriculum, and you have a practice and theory examination
